The Cutest, Cuddliest, Coat Trend for AW17
Teddy bears. Those cute, universally-friendly, cuddly things we had growing up – and still, many of us have them now. There’s something still so comforting about them. But if you’re not vibing on the whole cuddly toy in your twenties thing, meet your Autumn/ Winter maker: the teddy coat. It’s gone on strong a few seasons, and it’s back with a furry vengeance for 2017 like an fur-ocious (sorry, couldn’t help myself) hipster Care Bear that couldn’t find its favourite vinyl record.
If you’ve followed my blog for some time, you’ll probably already know I have a thing for coats and jackets. If you’ve subscribed to my YouTube, you’ll also be all too familiar with this fact. Coats are my absolute kryptonite. They have the ability to totally transform your most basics of basics, and let’s face it, when it comes to dressing for the winter, a coat is mostly the only thing people see when you’re out and about anyway!

No, seriously. Coats are a very serious investment you need to make in order for you know, winter survival. If you’re only looking to make a few firm outerwear investments this season, then stake your claim right now to the teddy coat. But Urban Outfitters has all trend bases covered if you’re a little more sartorially spendy in the coat department. There’s puffers aplenty, faux fur wonders, and puffer-faux fur hybrids too (the Puffaux jacket? I’m coining the term, I’m making it happen) There’s everyone’s favourite oversized aviator and updated classics like reinvented trenches. Oh, and heritage checks? You can check them off the list too.
But back to the teddy coat. The key to styling it is all about clashing up textures. It’s already fluffy and furry and fuzzy, so team it with a myriad of other luxe materials. Yes, I’m talking high-shine vinyl and retro cord, like this skirt and bag combo. Keep your colours muted to bring out the best of the texture clash too.
Speaking truthfully, I’m surprised at exactly how versatile this piece is. I wasn’t expecting it to carry itself with everything in my wardrobe just as well as any classic black coat could, but this fuzzy little thing really knocked me out of my patent leather boots.
