The Denim That I Can't Live Without

If I look to my right in my bedroom at this very moment, there’s a pretty Scandi-style rail with 19 pairs of jeans hanging off it. Yes, 1-9. Half black, half blue – all neatly colour and style coordinated – naturally. But realistically, out of all of them, how many do I wear? One pair. Sure, sometimes my stepped hems will get an outing once a month, or I’ll squeeze into my black skinnies when a Friday night calls for it, but there’s one pair which feels timeless yet so right now that I can never stop myself from going back to.

This pair has cropped up all over my blog (1, 2, 3, 4 at least), they’ve featured in numerous Instagram photos, and appeared in my Snapchat and Insta stories in the form of a mirror selfie with a peach emoji next to my bum because they make it look so Kardashian-worthy (and I have tried Levi’s Wedgie fit jeans which absolutely pale in comparison). I’m a pear-shaped gal, if we’re going to go all Trinny & Susannah on my body. Little waist, big hips, bum, and thighs, so denim is often the enemy to me as it never looks as good on me as it does on a leggy model. Apart from these Holy Grail jeans that were practically made for me. You know the Sinead O’Connor song Nothing Compares To You? I’m somewhat convinced she wrote it about these jeans. I know, you are begging to know what sartorial genie bestowed such denim upon me, no? Well, they’re Dorothy Perkins straight-leg jeans. Simple, effective, and affordable, too.

Now Dorothy Perkins are reimagining their denim collection just in time for autumn/winter, which is perfect as when do you really ever want to wear anything other than jeans during the colder months? We can kid ourselves that we’ll get maximum wear from that expensive wintery dress but you and I both know when your alarm sounds off at 7am on a Friday, ok, every morning, we’re reaching for our go-to jeans. Last minute date? Get the jeans. Hungover? Get the jeans. I’ve been after the perfect excuse to get hold of this particular pair in black, but the funny thing is, you don’t need a good excuse for good jeans. You just need them. (Well, I suppose the only excuse I have is that I’ve worn the blue pair to death and all…)

Even if it’s not jeans you’re after, DP’s denim offering encompasses embroidered denim dresses (and we all know how much I love the embroidered trend after my latest video!) classic button-up skirts and black coated jeans that are screaming for a Friday night spent on a dance floor.

I’ve teamed mine with a typical every day Fashion Slave outfit – as that is what is at the heart of denim – the every day essentiality of it. A pyjama-style star-print top, oversized belted coat, and statement-making ankle boots in the most perfect autumnal shade.

You know when people say they’ve found the one? The love of their lives? Well, I just had the denim equivalent. Shop the full look below!
