Everyone’s Obsessed with Rainbow Stripes

Haven’t you heard? Orange is the new black. Along with yellow, green, blue, pink, violet, and red, all together in big bold candy stripes. Since Alessandro Michele sent his models in the latest Gucci installation stomping down the runway in all manner of eye-searing shades – not to mention dressed Alexa Chung in that rainbow sweater (which is now sold out everywhere) – the fashion world has become utterly obsessed with colour. Or to be more precise, all of the colours of the rainbow.

Fashion is a bizarre thing. Suddenly the got-to-have look du jour is all about garments bright enough to render a migraine in even those with the darkest sunglasses on. A rainbow sweater. It’s so juvenile, so sickly, so vulgar… that it’s actually rather brilliant. And against the dreary, slate-coloured skies of January, a resplendent rainbow does wonders for adding new season cheer. Yes, indeed, a rainbow sweater in January is what a christmas jumper is to the festive season. Totally novelty. Yet totally necessary (because, fashion)

So how do you do the rainbow stripe trend without looking as though a child has eaten a box of crayons and vomited all over you? Seek guidance from this high street selection.

And some finishing touches

  1. It's one of those trends that takes you right back to childhood… and I love it!
Something about throwing on a high neck rainbow jumper makes me feel so careless and fun, whilst the slightly mature me still existing on the inside somewhere!
